Investigations have afforded much indirect evidence of the action of such agents on the nervous and muscular systems. However, direct quantitative measurements of functional states in the intact organism following the administration of pharmacological substances have never been attempted, doubtless because of lack of suitable instruments. The possibility of such investigation has finally been opened by advances in electrophysiology in the last decade. Most convenient for the present investigation, which I believe marks a first step in this special field, is apparatus capable...Bibliography1.
