- W1486451337 abstract "Many solid compounds are known to exist in several competing (metastable) modifications. The long-range goal should be to build up a database of (preferably analytical) models for individual synthesis stages, to achieve transferability between systems, that is, it should not be necessary anymore to replicate all the modeling steps in detail for every new system, but only compute certain key features of the chemical system which are sufficient for deducing the model parameters that describe the particular synthesis route. This chapter formulates a couple of the challenges and open questions that one encounters when addressing this task. On the experimental side, there are two main issues: the lack of atomistic control in solid state synthesis compared to, for example, molecular chemistry synthesis, and the lack of hard data about success rates and failures as function of synthesis method and the setting of their parameters." @default.
