- W1486891844 abstract "Publisher Summary Fungal colonization of indoor materials is not uncommon but is often cryptic, particularly when it occurs within the air-distribution system and within walls. The fungal colonization is identified by the presence of vegetative growth represented by ramifying hyphae. The colonization may be temporal and microscopic or more extensive and obvious by sight and smell in buildings with moisture problems. The studies of indoor molds focus on colonization of surfaces, particularly in association with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. If the molds achieve ambient particle counts of species within a restricted airflow, more stringent recommendations might be advised. In all instances, the air-conditioning vents to the affected sites are sealed immediately prior to any remediation activities. In many instances, indoor materials can be sanitized to an acceptable level, and the use of preserved materials combined with good maintenance can significantly reduce the extent of indoor mold colonization." @default.
