Twenty-four and 48 h after precursor injection the specific activity of RNA extracted after DOC treatment is higher than that extracted without DOC treatment. RNA extracted from the microsomal fraction of adult cerebral cortex shows little change in specific activity after DOC treatment. That extracted from the nuclear fraction after DOC treatment has a lower specific activity at all time periods after [14C] orotic acid injection. Sucrose density gradient analysis shows differences in the labelling pattern of microsomes from 4-day-old and adult cerebral cortex. Gradient analyses of adult microsomes also show that little or no change in total counts or in the pattern of specific activity results from DOC treatment. With 4-day-old microsomes fewer counts are recoverable 1 h after precursor administration, and at both 1 h and 24 h there are marked changes in the pattern of specific activity." @default.
