- W148803609 abstract "Marx's theory of capitalism, like other theories of evident importance, has been subjected to the most varied and contradictory interpretations by its own disciples as well as by partisans of competing theories. Such interpretations come to light in divergent, often opposing approaches. In some cases they aim to demonstrate the validity of Marx's system and to develop it further, while in others they serve as springboards for criticizing that system from the vantage points of rival theoretical systems. Yet it is also true that a social theory must be susceptible to continual reinterpretation to remain relevant to the analysis of the constantly changing reality it purports to explain, as well as for the development of the theory itself. When such reinterpretation is done by its critics, a comparison with rival theories is implied. Of course, this comparison does not always assume the form of an open dispute between one theory and another over their respective principles or concepts; it can also take a more subtle form, with a neutralization, seemingly benign, of one theory by the other. In other words, the practitioners of one theory may be able to reinterpret the principles of a rival theory in such a way as to deprive it of the status of an independent theory and coopt it in part into their own theory. If we are to believe Post Keynesian authors, this seems to be what has" @default.
