Biofuel cells are a popular research area in energy conversion, but most biofuel cells employ sugars, such as glucose, as fuels. These sugar fuels have been employed for two reasons: possible applications for implantable energy conversion devices and the prevalence of commercial enzymes for sugar oxidation due to the glucose biosensor field. However, oils are very high in energy density and could be advantageous as fuels for biofuel cells.
