However, similar defects have also developed under the high axle load operations in the Hunter Valley Region of the Rail Infrastructure Corporation. This study has examined squat defects, and has shown that their primary causes are: - The microslip that occurs within the wheel/rail contact patch, particularly at the higher traction and creep levels associated with locomotives. - The wheelset/bogie hunting and the associated high lateral creep forces. The findings have led to the implementation of a range of preventative measures, which have included changes to the rail grinding procedures, rail and wheel profiles, and lubrication practices." @default.
