These observations, on more than 400 athletes during their university residence, were presented to the American Student Health Association at its 1937 meeting in Chicago and were published in the Proceedings of the organization.The result of these observations indicated definitely that the response of the heart to exercise depended not upon the exercise but upon the integrity of the heart's mechanism, and that hearts with slight departures from perfection in their mechanism were much more common among athletes...Bibliography1.
