- W1492247746 abstract "It is standard practice in the pharmaceutical industry to profile drug candidates for potential effects on the cardiovascular system, as cardiovascular safety is the leading cause of drug discontinuation in all phases of drug development. However, routine nonclinical methods may not be effective in identifying all adverse effects: drug candidates that are shown to be safe in nonclinical studies and in healthy volunteers may still cause serious cardiovascular adverse reactions when administrated in patients for longer periods of time. This is important as new or unexpected adverse reactions may result in delayed patients' access to new medicines and have significant financial consequences for industry. Therefore, the development of predictive and specific biomarkers for cardiovascular safety assessment is critical to improve the cardiovascular safety of future medicines." @default.
