The sensor module is based on an identical transducer principle—namely, the ion-sensitive field-effect transistor. The multifunctionality of this sensor module has been achieved by means of different sensor arrangements and/or various operation modes. Thus, the number of measuring parameters can be significantly higher than the number of sensors present in the module. The developed hybrid module consists of two ion-selective field-effect transistors (ISFETs) only in combination with an ion generator. Several ISFET-based sensors for the determination of three (bio)chemical and four physical parameters have been realised: an ISFET-based pH sensor with a Ta205 gate for pH determination in both static and flow-through conditions; an ISFET-based penicillin sensor (PenFET) by adsorptively immobilizing the enzyme penicillinase on top of the pH-sensitive Ta205 gate, the differential set-up as a pH ISFET/PenFET dual chip allows compensation for fluctuations of the test sample's pH value; and an ISFET-based bioelectronic sensor (beetle/chip) combines both the excellent olfactory abilities of sensory organs (insect antenna) and the highly reliable electronic signal amplification of the FET." @default.
