- W1495396810 abstract "Isochromosomes refer to an identical chromosome arm on both sides of a centromere, with subsequent loss of the other chromosome arm. The isochromosome may replace a normal homolog or be a supernumerary chromosome. Mechanistically, there is more than one proposed method by which isochromosomes may form. Briefly, one mechanism is a duplication of one arm of a chromosome during meiosis that undergoes a lack of proper centromere division, whereby division of the chromosome occurs laterally rather than longitudinally along a chromosome. It is also possible that the centromere duplicates along with the chromosome arm, giving rise to a dicentric isochromosome. Another mechanism proposed is that the isochromosome is really the combining of two sister chromatids rather than a duplication of a single chromosome arm." @default.
