- W1495841000 abstract "Noble metal nanoparticles (MNPs) incorporated in polymeric matrices have been the object of considerable scientific efforts due to their potential applications as nanostructured materials. This chapter focuses on the methods developed for the preparation of noble metal nanocomposites by means of controlled photoinduced reduction processes starting from metal precursors. Reaction mechanisms, conditions, and nature of the polymer matrices are taken into account and discussed in terms of providing the control of the final NP morphology. Different analytical techniques are used to describe nanoparticle characteristics and composite properties. Polymeric materials have been employed frequently as NP stabilizers during the chemical synthesis of metal colloids. More specifically, several polymer matrices have been utilized as supporting and stabilizing materials for noble MNPs generated by photoinduced synthetic processes. MNPs are generally formed or embedded within polymers starting from procedures that involve the use of water, polar (and also protic) solvents, or their mixtures." @default.
