BILINGUALISM AND THE LEVEL OF ACTING OF THE EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS IN ADOLESCENTS OF A BILINGUAL SCHOOL AND A NON BILINGUAL Abstract The current investigation tried to explore if this association class also offered in a mainly monolingual context. Method. It was carried out an Neuropsychological evaluation by means of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), the Stroop Color and Word Test and subtests that measure comprehension skills and English language production of Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE), a sample for 35 adolescents’ convenience divided in 2 groups of cases (15) and of controls (20). Results. They were significant differences among the two groups of interest, regarding the executive function of flexibility but any significant difference in relation to the executive functions of abstraction, planning and inhibition. In what refers to the correlations between the bilingualism grade and the executive functions they were as significant, the negative correlation between bilingualism and flexibility and the positive correlation between bilingualism and inhibition in the two evaluated groups. The results reveal that the bilingualism exercises a similar impact before the presence of a bilingual ability in the acting levels considered as basic and pre-intermediate. The presence of an inhibitory control is still required from the initial levels of second language learning, with the purpose of avoiding the interference among the linguistic systems." @default.
