- W1499636729 abstract "Because of their large diameter individual vaccinia virions can be easily visualized by immunofluorescence microscopy. Virus multiplication in chick embryo fibroblasts was monitored by this technique. Virus adsorption and penetration into the cell involves both infectious and non-infectious particles. The cytoplasmic pox virus factories are retained in cytoskeletal preparations even when microtubules are absent and intermediate filaments are translocated into perinuclear aggregates, indicating only an involvement of actin-containing microfilaments for anchorage of the factories. The hypothesis is discussed that during the cytoplasmic dissemination phase of progeny virions from the factories to the cellular periphery actin filaments seem to be the cytoskeletal fibrous system necessary for this process. In addition the characterization of the specialized virus-containing microvilli expressed late in infection—another example of specific pox virus cytoskeletal interactions—is extended by the identification of two additional components of the microfilament core filaments." @default.
