- W150186260 abstract "Baba & Murakami (2003) have proposed a two-channel nulling stellar coronagraph. In the nulling stellar coronagraph the light from a star is destructively interfered (Roddier & Roddier, 1997). In our method polarization interferometry is used for nulling interference of the star on the optical axis (Baba et al. 2002). The light from a telescope is split into mutually orthogonally polarized light and fed to the polarization nulling coronagraph. The starlight is destructively interfered identically in both channels, because the starlight is expected to be unpolarized. On the other hand, the light from an extrasolar planet is expected to be partially polarized. Then the intensities of the extrasolar planetimage become different in the two channels, while speckle noise caused by the starlight remains equal in both channels. In this paper we report laboratory experimental results obtained with the two-channel nulling stellar coronagraph." @default.
