- W1502147579 abstract "The thesis talks about non-institutional care for the elderly. At the beginning of the theoretical part I present some general facts about the old age, the consequences of aging, changes and needs in old age. Further I focus on non-institutional care for elderly and pay more attention to domestic help services. I introduce its contractors, pros and cons and I end this part with the voluntary companionship with a lonely old person. We can say that most of older people wish to stay in their home environment as long as possible but as final solution in the case of physical disabilities, specific needs the only offer they get is accommodation in an institution/ in a nursing home. Continuing life at home is an extremely important component for the quality age for most people and it cannot be completely replaced in other environment only with increasing physical comfort and material security (Ramovs, 2003). Despite the quick development of various programs for help, there are not enough opportunities for alternative choice and not enough information (Hvalic Tuzery, 2007). Slovenia has made efforts to create the conditions that would allow old people to stay at home in the most independent, safe and high-quality manner as long as possible, but it is still characterized by distinctly institutional orientation (Mali, Ovcar, 2010).In the empirical part of the thesis I analyzed interlocutors' statements who uses home help and compared their opinions, feelings with the opinions and statements of those who reside in a nursing home. The analysis show that none interviewee did not want or do not want to go to the nursing home and that they are not familiar with other forms of help. The reasons for the use of certain forms of help are associated with the disease and infirmity for all interviewees. The differences are noticeable in the quality and quantity of their social relations. All interviewees highlighted positive experiences and pleasure they have with their personal assistant and staff in a nursing home." @default.
