- W1505328207 abstract "Vast areas of the Australian continent experience periods of hot to very hot temperatures during summer, and extended hot spells are not uncommon. A qualitative study was undertaken, the aim of which was to identify in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities socio-economic and linguistic factors affecting vulnerability to heat and climate change. This chapter presents an overview of study findings and supporting literature and discusses the implications of future environmental and demographic changes. Climate change adaptation also requires preparedness for extraordinary and unprecedented events. Globally, climate change-driven increases in the occurrence of heat events, along with demographic changes in the proportion of ethnic minorities and ageing migrants within populations, will see a potential escalation in the size of vulnerable subgroups." @default.
