- W1505360272 abstract "The problem of solar energy utilisation falls broadly within two categories (1) the production and accumulation of energy to be utilised as and when needed, (2) delivering the energy in a short time to generate power. Tributsch and Calvin (1) have shown that chlorophyl could yield electrons which could be suitably conducted through zinc oxide single crystals. Our approach is based on the concept that between photosystem I and II in chloroplasts, or in chlorella, the electron exists as a hydrated electron. The hydration shell can be removed and electrons transmitted through a proper conduction band in a semiconductor. Additionally synthetic photoreactive dyes can cause conformational changes leading to expansion or contraction; this can control the sizes of “holes” in partitions, whereby the electron transfer rates can be controlled. Preliminary results on such experiments are presented." @default.
