- W1506549050 abstract "When studying the theory of entanglement of quantum mechanical systems, there are various reasons to focus on the entanglement of states described by continuous variables. This chapter focuses on two-party (bipartite) entanglement, both for pure and mixed Gaussian states. Similar to the two-party case, genuinely multiparty entangled Gaussian states can be built from single-mode squeezed states using passive linear transformations. The multipartite entanglement can be a useful resource in multiparty quantum communication protocols and networks. The chapter discusses the entanglement properties of Gaussian states. As for the manipulation of Gaussian states, an important class is the set of Gaussian operations. The Gaussian operations are those quantum operations that map all Gaussian states onto Gaussian states. The Wigner functions for describing Gaussian states are always positive definite. The corresponding method for creating Gaussian entanglement has been employed in many experiments around the world." @default.
