- W1508089851 abstract "An in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopic (XAS) study of the reduction behaviour of a series of rhenium-promoted supported cobalt Fischer-Tropsch catalysts has been performed at the cobalt K absorption edge. The catalysts were prepared using incipient wetness impregnation to give 12 or 20 wt.% cobalt and 0.5 wt.% rhenium. The catalysts were reduced at 673 K for 3 h in 5% hydrogen in helium while simultaneously recording XANES spectra. Time-resolved XANES experiments show that Co3O4 is reduced in two steps to cobalt metal with CoO as the intermediate species on all the supports (SiO2, TiO2, a-Al2O3, y-Al2O3). The reduction temperature for the first step coincides well with the temperature for the transformation of Co3O4 to CoO observed in standard temperature programmed reduction. At the end of the reduction process, cobalt is present as CoO and cobalt metal. The degree of reduction, as measured by XAS and oxygen titration, is support dependent and follows the order SiO2 > TiO2 > α-Al2O3 > γ-Al2O3." @default.
