- W151044974 abstract "Publisher Summary The word “fig” usually refers to Ficus, the fig tree, and its fruit known as the common fig. Fig fruits can be eaten fresh or dried and are used in jam making. Most commercial production is in dried or otherwise processed forms, since the ripe fruit does not transport well and once picked does not keep well. It is cooked as a vegetable and is believed to be good for heart ailments. Dried figs have the best nutrient score among dried fruit. The carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.) is a leguminous evergreen shrub or tree. Carob pods’ ethanolic extract contains three major carbohydrates: sucrose, glucose, and fructose. Together, these three carbohydrates account for 87.54% of the total dry weight extract. Carob pods are also rich in protein. Moreover, the pod has vitamins A and B and several important minerals, such as K, P, Ca, and Mg, as major minerals and Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu as trace minerals. Pistachio is a small tree, reaching up to 10 m tall, and is native to mountainous regions. Pistachios significantly reduced the level of low-density lipoprotein in the blood of volunteers. Dry roasted pistachio nuts are rich in carbohydrates, proteins, and fat. In addition, pistachio nuts contain some important vitamins and minerals." @default.
