- W1510588379 abstract "This chapter discusses that interest in calorimetric studies of biological macromolecules, in particular proteins, nucleic acids, and their complexes, is rapidly growing with the realization of the importance of information on the energetics of formation of macromolecular structures and their interactions with partner molecules. The demands placed on calorimetric instruments and experiments are increasing, as well as on the methods of analyzing calorimetric data. It discusses that in the past calorimeters were used only for measuring the heat effects of sharp temperature-induced transitions; the main interest is then concentrated on studying the heat effects of complicated changes in macromolecules and their complexes under varying conditions, on measuring the absolute values of thermodynamic parameters specifying the states of these molecules, and on correlating this thermodynamic information with structural information. This has led to the development of more sensitive calorimetric instruments, so-called nanocalorimeters, and special programs for analysis of calorimetric and structural information. The chapter discusses how to use these instruments and programs effectively and how to utilize these two pools of information to gain a deeper understanding of biological macromolecules." @default.
