- W1511782158 abstract "100 patients affected by adenomatous hyperplasia were observed to describe the clinical pattern and to define the final relationship of adenomatous hyperplasia to carcinoma. Most patients were over 50 but a number were premenopausal; most were white and married. The menstrual pattern of patients before onset of the disease also was observed. A considerable number of patients were obese and all had had abnormal vaginal bleeding for an average of 16 months; 22% had received treatment with estrogenic preparations; 27 patients had idiopathically enlarged uteri. 37 patients were treated by curettage 24 were considered cured and 13 required further treatment. 26 were treated by curettage and radiation sterilization 23 were considered cured while 3 required further treatment. 36 were treated with hysterectomy. In this series 10% of patients developed cancer later and in another 10% coexisting cancer could not be excluded. Obviously adenomatous hyperplasia is a significantly dangerous lesion which must be considered a cancer precursor." @default.
