Diatom analysis of two of the world's largest lakes (Lake Titicaca and Lake Victoria) has demonstrated that impacts from changes in the North Atlantic thermohaline circulation over the past 20 ka have impacted tropical ecosystems in South America and Africa. Habitat and ecological preferences of fossil diatoms have been used to reconstruct lake-level change in Lake Malawi during the past 144 ka." @default.
