- W1512152047 abstract "The title of this chapter encapsulates a common clinical dilemma for therapists if a client's sexual attraction is expressed through ‘obsessive relational intrusion’ (ORI) of the therapist. The chapter aims to place stalking of therapists on the map and highlights its manifestation and impact on therapists through clinical examples. Some psychotherapists interpret the question ‘why can't we be lovers?’ to mean ‘why not’, and a small minority become sexually involved with clients (to the client's as well as the therapist's detriment). Therapists who become the object of sexual attraction by an intimacy stalker are often in a double bind. The chapter highlights through specific examples that hyperintimacy tactics adopted by intimacy stalking clients are a result of pseudo-love. It aims to provide the impetus for further discourse on stalking within psychotherapy relationships to enlighten the field and help develop an open dialogue around the handling of stalking clients." @default.
