- W1514150912 abstract "This annual reviews issue is dedicated to Professor Peter Schreier on the occasion of his retirement as Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Nutrition & Food Research. With this dedication we wish to acknowledge his immense contribution to the shaping and conception of the journal. Most importantly, we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Professor Schreier for all his hard work and dedication to the journal over his years as Editor-in-Chief. Molecular Nutrition & Food Research was established in 2004 as a major relaunch of the journal Food/Nahrung. The transition from the very traditional Germany-based predecessor journal to the broadly international and modern topics-oriented successor was not an easy one and it needed the anticipatory guidance of a prominent figure in the emerging field of molecular nutrition research. Peter Schreier was an ideal choice for this task. Together with Professor Hans-Ulrich Humpf, he initiated the concept of an interdisciplinary information platform covering molecular aspects of nutrition and food research. The idea of focusing on nutritional research at the molecular level, including health aspects, as well as linking information arising from several disciplines such as bioactivity, safety, immunology, microbiology and chemistry turned out to be successful and met a clear need in the “food and nutrition” scientific community. This is not only evidenced by the strong upward trend in the impact factor of Molecular Nutrition & Food Research (from just over 2 in 2005 to 4.7 in 2010) but also by the continuous rise in submissions from authors world-wide. Here are a few activities that illustrate the workload of the Editor-in-Chief of a thriving journal: All this had to be accomplished alongside a proliferative and productive career as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Würzburg as the Chair of Food Chemistry, where Professor Schreier was the head for nearly 30 years. Such an Editorial is not only a perfect occasion to look back and say thank you but it is also a chance to look forward. From the start of the Journal in 2004, Professor Hans-Ulrich Humpf was not only the Associate Editor of the Journal, but also the designated successor of Professor Schreier in the role of Editor-in-Chief. Under his editorship, the journal will surely continue to be an important player in the multidisciplinary field of molecular nutrition. On a final note we would like to first of all express our best wishes to Professor Schreier for a happy retirement full of good health, new challenges and many more productive and successful years to come. Secondly, we would also like to wish Professor Hans-Ulrich Humpf good luck and success with the continued development of Molecular Nutrition & Food Research!" @default.
