- W1515614380 abstract "Effects of the amount and intensity of aerobic exercise on high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) plasma levels. Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes of mortality in industrialized countries. The increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) plasma concentration have been described as a protective factor, whereas elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) concentrations are associated with greater cardiovascular risk. Several studies report on the beneficial effects of aerobic exercise on lipoprotein composition and concentration, but their results are contradictory as to which volume and intensity are adequate. Objective: This study reviews relevant current literature on the effects of the volume and intensity of aerobic exercise on HDL-C and LDL-C plasma concentrations. Literature Review: Studies with adults were included if the main intervention was aerobic exercise and if data were reported about intensity, frequency, exercise duration, training program duration, and their effects on HDL-C, LDL-C, or both. Conclusion: Results were markedly contradictory, which may be assigned to methodological problems. However, increases in HDL-C plasma concentration seem to be associated with total training volume. Standard methods should be established and used in future studies to make comparisons possible." @default.
