- W1518187527 abstract "Classic Swine Fever (CSF) is the most serious viral pig disease as it is highly contagious and produces high rates of mortality and morbidity. The causal virus can induce chromosomal mutations in diseased animals as well as in those inoculated with attenuated live virus vaccines. This kind of vaccine was used for quite an extended period of time until 1990, when its use was forbidden in the European Union due to the impossibility of discriminating serologically diseased animals from immunized ones. Nevertheless, in those countries where vaccination is still in general use to control CSF, it is pertinent to study the mutagenic outcome of that type of vaccine. This is the case for Argentina where there is a lack of previous information about its effects. Therefore, in 1997 we began to study the matter. We performed five different trials: I) With experimental pigs of the National Service of Animal Health, which were subjected to the official tests of innocuousness and potency. II) Using swine of farms routinely immunized. III) In vitro blood analysis of non-vaccinated piglets. IV) In vitro tests to measure direct damage on DNA. V) Effect of the vaccine on the fertility of pregnant sows. Results of these trials indicate that the attenuated live virus vaccine against CSF keeps its" @default.
