Enfin, le chrysotile modifié par greffage est incorporé dans un copolymère styrène-butadiène confère, au composite correspondant, de meilleures qualités mécaniques. A grafting is observed when a styrene-butadiene copolymer, carrying a carbenium ion, is brought into contact with a chrysotile type of asbestos which had its outer brucite layer eliminated. The carbenium ion is formed on the polymer backbone during the treatment with AlCl3. The fixation has been studied as a function of the weight ratio (x) asbestos/polymer. For small values of x, and in dilute polymer solutions, the fixation follows an apparent first order kinetics. Moreover, the grafting ratio reaches a limit corresponding to an optimum coverage of the chrysotile surface. For high values of x, the total amount of grafted polymer remains constant. In concentrated polymer solutions, the grafting is restrained since other deactivation reactions of the carbenium ions and formation of inefficient macromolecular aggregates become predominant. Finally the grafted asbestos gives improved mechanical properties to a chrysotile-styrene-butadiene copolymer composite." @default.
