- W1519248873 abstract "ABSTRACTThis study aimed to explore the lived experiences of newly-hired nurses on their journey to the “work world”. The study was conducted at Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC), San Fernando La Union. Data were collected from May 1-16, 2013. Purposive sampling was used to choose the 9 participants which are nurses with work experience of 5 months, ages 20-26 years; 7 females and 2 are males with one married participant. An unstructured interview was done to collect data that lasted for about 5-10 minutes guided by the question: What are your lived-experiences as a newly-hired nurse? The study showed that the experiences of the newly-hired nurses in ITRMC are classified into:1.Relating. The participants stated that they have deal with the attitudes of doctors, senior nurses, and fellow newly-hired nurses. Relating is when a participant is able to tolerate the uniqueness of every member of the health team.2. Working. Working depicts that newly-hired nurses really have to live with the kind of workload that they have in the area. The participants claimed that sometimes, it’s really hard especially if there are pressures but other participants said they can reside with it. There also times that they are happy with the kind of workload they have especially when there are fewer patients in the area.3.Earning. Earning describes how these newly-hired nurses are able to endure the amount of their compensation. 4. Learning. According to the participants they are able to hone their knowledge and skills while they are staying in the hospital and this gives them confidence and feeling of fulfillment.The central theme that emerged from the findings is that there are positive and negative experiences of newly-hired nurses when it comes to their working relationships (relating), workload (working), compensation (earning) and professional growth (learning).Based on the results of the study, the researcher has the following recommendations in order to improve the working condition of newly-hired nurses in the hospital and to reinforce their good experiences:1. Self-awareness, team building, values reorientation, intersectoral projects and multidisciplinary conferences for newly-hired nurses, senior nurses, doctors and hospital administrators.2. More programs and activities like socialization, hospital week activities for newly-hired nurses, senior nurses, doctors that will promote good relationships among them. 3. The conduct of quantitative research studies and a qualitative research on a longer duration on the same topic." @default.
