- W1519283914 abstract "The current paper provides a German translation of the maximizing scale, originally presented by Schwartz, Ward, Monterosso, Lyubomirsky, White, and Lehman (2002). The maximizing scale assesses the individual tendency to strive for optimal versus satisfactory decisions. A translation of the regret scale is also provided, as this scale was initially introduced along with the maximizing scale. Two studies (N = 317, 219) investigated the factor structure, reliability and validity of the German translation of the maximzing scale. Adding to the existing evidence, the following results are particularly noteworthy: First, both theoretically and empirically, maximizing appears to be a unidimensional, bipolar construct. Second, the reported correlational data strongly support both the convergent validity (for example regarding chronic prevention focus and fear of invalidity) and the discriminant validity (for example regarding chronic promotion focus and need for closure) of the maximizing construct. Third, for the first time quasi-experimental evidence regarding the validity of the maximizing scale is presented. Specifically, we show that maximizer compared to satisficer a) strive more for optimal decisions and b) invest more in the relevant search process. Theoretical and practical implications of the reported evidence are discussed." @default.
