- W1519661641 abstract "A transient and thermal EHL model of rough surfaces in point contact was presented in this paper. It was assumed that each solid surface had a bump in a steel-steel contact under slide-roll condition. The two bumps were arranged to enter the contact zone gradually, overtake each other at the centre of the contact, and then leave the contact one by one, eventually. The whole bump-passing process was described as a transient and non-Newtonian thermo-EHL problem and simulated numerically with a powerful solver. Taking the instant when the two bumps just encounter as reference, a series of pressure and film thickness distributions before, just, and after the encounter was given. The numerical results show that the existence of bumps can induce local high pressures, and inversely, the high pressures can depress the bumps down partly, so it is not inclined for the bumps to pierce through the oil film. Yet high bumps can make the film dangerously thin and the local pressure peaks can decrease the fatigue life of the contact surfaces." @default.
