- W1520004467 abstract "Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging technique used to visualize in real time the internal structure of biological tissues in a non-invasive manner, without preliminary preparation, with a spatial resolution close to that of optical microscopy. The technique can also be applied to the imagery of semi-transparent materials. In the medical domain, OCT presents a major advantage when biopsies are impossible to carry out or when they are risky. This is particularly the case in ophthalmology where the impact of OCT is the most significant. The technique is also useful to localize any possible suspicious biological structures over large areas, in particular in internal medicine at the level of the wall of the gastrointestinal tract; biopsies are no longer performed blindly when cancer is suspected. Finally, OCT could avoid the histological preparations necessary for anatomopathological examinations, especially those practiced during certain surgical operations, thus saving valuable time. Controlled Vocabulary Terms biological tissues; biomedical engineering; biomedical imaging; eye; optical microscopy; optical tomography" @default.
