The increase in total protein occurs within the first 24 hours of culture. The differences encountered are not statistically significant. Cartilaginous rudiments from 612-day normal (+/+) embryos obtained from Creeper matings increase in length by 55% and in protein content by 63% on 9-day Leghorn embryo extract over a 3-day culture period. Comparable tibiotarsi cultured on Creeper embryo extract increase in length by 49% and in protein content by 52%. Statistical significance could not be demonstrated with the apparent differences. Test tibiotarsi incorporate leucine highest on Creeper embryo extract followed by normal (+/+) and Leghorn embryo extract. Rudiments removed from 612-day normal (+/+) embryos incorporate leucine greater on Creeper extract and similarly on their own type and Leghorn embryo extract. Creeper tibiotarsi removed from 612-day embryos incorporate leucine higher on Creeper extract than on Leghorn embryo extract. White Leghorn and Creeper tibiotarsi removed from 612-day embryos show no effect of the source of embryo extract upon the incorporation rates of valine and proline. The action of the Creeper genotype upon protein metabolism in cartilaginous tibiotarsi has been discussed." @default.
