Most staff and users take it for granted and have few difficulties with it. Much of the original user instruction program de signed by our Implementation Team on Orientation and Training is intact, though there have been significant modi fications. In general, the team overesti mated the user's affinity for a card catalog and underestimated the library staff s resistance to change. Today, our microcatalog represents one of the largest COM catalogs in North America. We have 1.4 million unique rec ords in machine-readable form with more than 6 million access points. Three cen tral library buildings and more than forty campus libraries contain a total of 5.4 mil lion volumes. About a million of these volumes (the retrospective material in some campus libraries) have not yet been added to our data base. We produce the microcatalog in two forms: microfiche and microfilm.
