- W1521924748 abstract "This chapter outlines the microbial waste water and waste treatment, and describes the actual trends of environmental biotechnologies. A common feature of the majority of the treatment processes is that the substrate is a non-specified organic matter. Correspondingly, the aim of the techniques to be evaluated is biodegradation for environmental control purposes and sometimes for gaining marketable products. The industrial process developed applies supplementary separation of aerobic and anoxic–anaerobic process steps by a periodical aeration shut-off timing program, thus economizing more organic matter for P release. That helps one to maintain a high P removal efficiency down to a COD/N ratio as low as 5:1. Environmental factors favoring the overgrowth of P accumulating Acinetobacters, together with those of nitrification, denitrification and organic removal are often contradictory. The problem is solved by a sophisticated series of anaerobic anoxic and aerobic treatment steps interlinked by multiple recirculation." @default.
