- W1523725603 abstract "The relevance of aromatic halide exchange reactions resides in the extensive use of aryl halides in transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Among the different halides, the cheapest and most accessible aryl chlorides are the least reactive ones in cross-coupling reactions. Therefore, there is a high interest in developing aromatic halogen exchange methods to produce aryl bromides and iodides from the corresponding chlorides. In addition, aryl halides are important targets by their own as they are present in many pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, specially the most inert aryl chlorides and fluorides. Therefore, the ability to exchange a given halide in an aryl group for another halide, regarding the target of the haloarene, is a high useful transformation. This chapter discloses the most relevant contributions to aromatic halide exchange reactions catalysed by transition metals with special emphasis on the most synthetic useful halide exchanges: preparation of aryl iodides from aryl chlorides and bromides and synthesis of fluoroarenes compounds from different halogen derivatives. Recent reports point toward nickel, palladium, and copper as the metal of choice for achieving these transformations and, therefore, halide exchange methods based on these three metals are covered in this chapter." @default.
