- W1527157574 abstract "MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in regulation of genes that are important in different aspects of mutagenesis, including regulation of xenobiotic metabolism to influence activation of promutagens, cell cycle arrest to interrupt the checkpoints for DNA damage, and DNA repair and apoptosis to directly affect mutation formation. This chapter discusses the roles of miRNAs in regulation of xenobiotic metabolism, cell cycles, DNA repair, apoptosis, and mutation formation. Xenobiotic metabolism is mainly divided into two phases. In phase 1, structure of a chemical is modified through oxidation, reduction, and other mechanisms to introduce polar groups and increase reactivity of the chemical so that the modified structure is easier to be conjugated in phase II. Basal excision repair (BER) repairs damaged DNA to remove small, non-helix-distorting base lesions from the genome. miRNAs are involved in regulating this cellular mechanism. Several miRNAs are activated by P53 while others activate P53 to regulate cell apoptosis." @default.
