Both the catalytic reaction of a protein or an enzyme and the coupling with further reaction have been used analytically. For a better understanding, a description of electron-transfer processes of redox proteins at electrodes is presented. The chapter characterizes the behavior of the relevant proteins and enzymes at electrodes and discusses their respective biosensors. The sensors for superoxide, nitric oxide, and peroxide are described in the chapter. For biosensors of the third generation, DET to small-redox proteins show interaction with reactive (oxygen) species, while enzymes in direct electric contact are suitable for reagentless-metabolite measurement." @default.
