- W1529300007 abstract "This chapter reviews the recent advances in the understanding of the way cells deal with the toxic copper ions. One theme, which has largely been unfolded in the detoxification pathway and is emerging in other pathways of copper ion homeostasis, is the ways in which physiological and toxic copper ion concentrations are transduced into biological signals. Clearly, copper ion coordination by the regulatory factors plays a critical role in these mechanisms. Future elucidation of the mechanisms of copper ion signaling in transport and other pathways will lead to proper understanding of cellular homeostatic control of this metal ion. Conservation of the underlying mechanisms among species underscores the importance of using yeast as a model system to explore critical aspects of copper ion homeostasis. Yeast can also be used to re-examine and validate findings and questions from other organisms, for more understanding." @default.
