- W1529454477 abstract "Stem cells have the potential to differentiate into cell types necessary for regenerative medicine. The fate of stem cells and their features requires intracellular manipulation through nonviral delivery of biologically active agents such as small molecules, proteins and genes/small interfering RNA (siRNA). Delivery systems are being harnessed for direct delivery of these agents into stem cells in order to enhance their efficiency and lessen rapid degradation and nonspecific distribution. Nanoengineering of well-organized nanocarriers capable of targeting specific cellular regions may impact stem-cell differentiation and regenerative medicine. This chapter presents the attainable nanocarrier-based delivery systems and their use in stem cells for maintaining self-renewal or targeted differentiation into specific cell types for cell therapy applications. Finally, directions in the intracellular approach of nanosystems designed for effective and intact delivery as well as applications of these delivered agents are reviewed." @default.
