- W1533003300 abstract "This chapter first discusses four different kinds of methods used to determine the impact of climate change on species. The four methods are comparing observed population and distribution changes with those predicted under climate change, climate envelope models, criteria-based methods, and susceptibility or vulnerability frameworks. The climate envelope models are the most widely used approach and have been extremely influential in highlighting vulnerable areas and species for conservation, and in quantifying the likely scale of climate change impacts on species and ecosystems in coming decades. Then, the chapter evaluates the merits of each for development of a global indicator framework. It also describes two indicators that have been put into practice at a regional scale. Finally, the chapter discusses the role that monitoring can and should play in validating both assessments and indicators of climate change impacts on biodiversity." @default.
