• W1535130069 abstract "Violence today constitutes a great concern for the health of the Brazilian population and the health sector, in which women suffer physical, sexual, psychological and economical aggression. To discuss this theme, this study had as objective to characterize the profile of female adolescents who have been the victims of domestic violence during childhood, as well as understanding and identifying the types of violence and repercussions to the adolescents’ mental health. With quantitative and qualitative approach, this study was developed in ten public schools in the municipality of Sobral - Ceara, belonging to the public network. Female adolescents aged between 12 and 19 years who regularly attended the referred schools participated in the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical method and processed with the SPSS statistical program software, version 13, and to determine correlations between study variables and the incidence of domestic violence Pearson’s chi-square test was applied. From data analysis, on the profile of the adolescents, it was identified that 73.6% of the participants in the study had suffered some kind of violence in their childhood and the family group was related to the fact of having suffered some kind of violence, highlighting negligence and emotional abuse amongst others. It was concluded that this study enabled visualizing something little explored, the violence phenomenon and its characteristics. According to literature, in our midst, cultural aspects were important factors for the behavior of family members, having as consequence, in many cases, abuse of power by the stronger over the weaker." @default.
