- W1535604989 abstract "This study relates the story of a start-upconsulting firm in Sweden, using concepts drawn from Mikhail Bakhtin aboutunderstanding life as a process of becoming and as a moving dialogue betweenhuman beings. Entrepreneurial activity is shown to be an inherent part ofeveryday life. The author uses the concept of prosaics (developed by ChrisSteyaert in an earlier chapter of the book) to take the reader into ways ofunderstanding that were previously lacking in the field; entrepreneurial actionis conceived as process-sensitive. The author provides a detailed account of the communal narrative of theearly years of the start-up. Bakhtin’s concepts are used to clarify theconceptual framework that informed the author’s understanding concerning thefirst one and a half years of the firm’s existence. The author’s analysis showshow the story of the start-up is composed of the connections between smallnarratives told by the firm members that carry energy and meaning for thenarrators. These entrepreneurs' sense of time created a space of free agency.Their interactions created a moving dialogue with what they were becoming.Shown are the contrasts and strains between the self-images and stories themembers told about what they would become as they started the firm and theimages and stories as they struggle to relate the firm to outside audiences(clients) who demanded certain other kinds of stories.
