- W1538437136 abstract "The magnetic susceptibility of Ca(NH3)6 has been measured by the Faraday method over the range 1.5−300°K. The observed molar susceptibility, after correction for diamagnetism, decreases linearly from 130×10−6 at room temperature to 85×10−6 at 100°K, then rises linearly to 140×10−6 at 20°K, and finally falls rapidly to 60×10−6 at 1.5°K. The behavior below 100°K is reminiscent of that previously reported for Li(NH3)4 and may be due to an incipient metal−nonmetal transition. Conduction electron spin resonance (CESR) at X−band frequency has been measured for Ca(NH3)6 over the temperature range 4.2−240°K. The absorption signal is Dysonian and its second derivative peak−to−peak linewidth decreases linearly with temperature to about 40°K, below which the decrease becomes more rapid. The spin−lattice relaxation time varies approximately as T−1, even at very low temperatures. The measured g shift (−5×10−4) is small and independent of temperature; the small value relative to Ca suggests that the wavefunction of the conduction electrons at the Fermi level possesses more s character in Ca(NH3)6 than it does in Ca." @default.
