- W1541347055 abstract "Under ecological conditions, perceptual judgment and motor behavior work hand in hand without significant discrepancies, thus leading us safely through our daily activities. However, it is well known that several visual illusions deceive perceptual judgment ( e.g. , in the Muller-Lyer figure). Nonetheless, these illusions have only a marginal influence on motor behavior like pointing or grasping. Such spatial dissociations as well as dissociations observed in neurological patients are discussed in relation to the dorsal and the ventral system ( Milner & Goodale, 1995 ). There are also a number of temporal dissociations, mainly observed between temporal order judgments and simple reaction time tasks. Two accounts for these temporal dissociations can be found in the literature: Sternberg and Knoll's (1973) model and Neumann's (1990 ; Neumann, Ansorge, & Klotz, 1998 ) concept of direct parameter specification. We compared these two accounts by studying two additional performance measures (choice reaction time task and synchronization task). We used stimulus configurations that revealed dissociations between perceptual judgments and motor responses (metacontrast masking and the Frohlich effect paradigm). The two accounts are discussed in the light of the new data presented, and an extended theoretical view is proposed that is able to overcome the problems of the two other models." @default.
