- W1543465362 abstract "Glioblastoma, the most common subtype of malignant brain tumors, has been in the focus of most microRNA (miRNA) studies within recent years. This chapter summarizes miRNA function in glioblastoma and other primary central nervous system (CNS) tumors. It highlights the ongoing attempts to use miRNA as novel diagnostic tools and biomarkers. The most common primary (intrinsic) brain tumors are referred to as gliomas. Meningiomas account for approximately 36% of all primary brain tumors. The vast majority of meningiomas are classified as World Health Organization (WHO) grade I tumors, indicating the overall benign behavior of these neoplasms. Medulloblastoma occurs typically in children and young adults. Apart from gliomas, meningiomas, pituitary adenomas, and medulloblastomas, the list of primary brain tumors comprises schwannomas, primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL), and other rare entities." @default.
