- W1544682152 abstract "Norway spruce is the economical most important tree species of German forestry. About 32 % of German forest area is covered of Norway spruce. About 20 % of the harvested spruce wood in Germany is infected by the white rot fungus called Heterobasidion annosum. Losses caused of root rot amounts in sum 100 Mio. per year. Previous activities were always focused on antagonising the fungus. Until now only one attempt is known to increase the value of this degraded timber. This thesis analyses the suitability of wood which is infected by the Heterobasidion annosum for the wood based panel industry. In comparison to uninfected wood, the infected spruce wood shows a modified chemical composition effected by the fungal decay of the cell structure. Laboratory scale and pilot scale tests shows the suitable use of in vivo degraded spruce wood as raw material for board production. In combination with most usual binding agents the infected wood is suitable for high quality particle boards and MDF. In comparison to references made of uninfected spruce wood, boards based on infected spruce wood have better mechanical and technical properties. The conclusion is the possibility of lowering the board density." @default.
