- W15467413 abstract "In child development, there has been a main focus on vulnerability factors in the development of problematic behavior. The differential susceptibility hypothesis states, however, that some children, due to susceptibility factors, are more affected by both adverse and beneficial environments. This experimental study examined whether a difficult temperament (negative affect) has a moderating effect on the relation between parenting and prosocial and antisocial behavior, when several criteria were met. There has been a specific interest whether this effect would be more affected for girls in contrast to boys. 107 children (range 5 – 8 years; 57% boys) and their parents participated in the study. Children were primed with warm or harsh parenting using audio stories and reported about their emotional state afterwards. Parents filled in questionnaires about the temperaments of their children. Prosocial and antisocial behavior was measured with specific tasks. Results from logistic and linear regression analyses indicated that there was no significant moderation effect from negative affect on the relation between parenting and proand antisocial behavior. Neither was there for gender. The present study did not find evidence for the differential susceptibility hypothesis." @default.
