- W1547102218 abstract "This chapter focuses on Norwegian experiments and case studies, and includes an example of modelling from comparable conditions in Switzerland. As most of the Norwegian hydropower system feasible for hydropeaking, discharge water directly to the sea or to salmonid rivers, most of the focus on environmental impacts is on salmonids. However, the methodology may also be highly relevant for other fish species and other organisms. Rapid flow fluctuations can be categorised by changes in magnitude, the rate of change, frequency, duration and timing. In general, methods in ecohydraulics are very well suited to studying rapid flow fluctuations and their impacts. Laboratory studies and model simulations may then serve as important complementary analysis. As many processes in aquatic ecosystems are controlled by temperature, rapid and relatively large changes in water temperature may have unknown effects. This area of research needs more focus in the future." @default.
